She talks to Owls ([personal profile] miintikwa) wrote2017-01-02 02:45 pm

Woot!

So, I generally feel better after talking things out with people. Bouncing ideas off people, listening to other people's perspectives, and generally finding out how sheltered I am (sometimes) really helps. After yesterday's foo, a friend reached out to me and helped me see that it's not (just) me, it's FB, and offered some suggestions for how to make it a better tool. I think I will be implementing those ideas, once I'm feeling more like tackling it.

For the nonce, though, I want to focus on Patreon. I need to get my Patreon up and running, and hopefully get it working for me. Even if I don't reach the levels some of the people out there are at, just getting a few hundred bucks a month would REALLY help with some of the financial tensions I've been dealing with. I'm going to push myself to keep up with it no matter how I'm feeling. Fingers crossed that it will work.

Anyway. I am also working diligently on [profile] goals_workshop stuff, and that's really been awesome. She's given me other tools to work with, and I'm hoping I can motivate myself to get with it there, too.

I do need to finish up the step I'm currently working on and post it so I can figure out what to work first. I also have a bunch of phone calls I need to make tomorrow (UGH phones) and that will be a grind. Thankfully, one of the things I wanted to look into they have email. Woo for email.

For now, I need to go clean litterboxes, vacuum, and get my butt in gear for the day. Be well, everyone! <3

I'm glad you were able to sort out the facebook stuff (Jillian J from there, is me, btw). It really is an awful time sucker that brings out the worst in people. I'm starting to step back as well. Just not worth all the drama. :/ <3

Good luck with all the goals. :D YOU CAN DO IT!

We'd've found you either way, though admittedly FB from the phone is the way we go during school sometimes.

This quarte will be interesting for us though; we will only go in one day a week, and one of our classes is online. We have not done one of those in years, so this should be interesting.

I do swish we had a bit more of a filtered FB; we would love a group for those who know of us; we do not have one, and the majority of those there do not know.

FINALLY resurrected my account over here so I can fallow your posts again!

Will link my wordpress ramblings here as well.
I totally agree with your reasons for stepping away. Feeling a bit of disconnect with a lot of things there at the moment.

Excited to hear things are looking up and you have a game plan

With regard to Farcebook, it's very definitely not just you. It's me as well! That site is and always has been shite. It should come in a plain package with a government health warning!

Apparently the portion of the prayer candle that I dedicated to you has lead to positive results. There is much strength in community of others, especially when they're able to relate.

*big squishy hugs* It delights me that you're feeling much better and gaining control. =)

I've seen the repurposing and rejuvenation on your social media and it's impressed me enough to use it as a point of reference/aspiration. Facebook became all things to all people and deteriorated accordingly. It's actually merged two very good ideas (not well but hey you can't have everything), social media and the web portal. I do miss the days of AOL and iGoogle pages containing my various newsfeeds/social media/messaging/email in a convenient place. The one really big issue is that unless you curate that shit really well, the signal to noise ratio becomes overwhelming and it becomes a time suck and infinitely less useful. (One can argue that FB's fucked up algorithms actually contribute to this.) Still, there are events and other things that I would not have discovered if not for the occasionally misplaced ratio so there is that. One of my tech savvy friends hit a very apropo term when he called it 'the baby web.'
