End of an era.

In a day or two, I will be deleting my permanent account at Livejournal. If you are reading this there, I would ask that you contact me via email (deyaniera AT email DOT com), facebook (facebook.com/miintikwa), or Dreamwidth. Because I no longer trust Livejournal to keep my content safe. I have already deleted most of my images that were there, and I've archived and imported all my entries.

It's probably past time to let go of it. I am sad, but I am also resigned.

I hope most of you will come with me to DW or elsewhere.

Sadly, after 9 years, I deleted my LJ back in January. DW is turning out to be a very nice place to hang out and blog. Like you, I don't feel safe at LJ anymore.

I'd been cross-posting from DW to LJ for years, so before leaving, I backed up all my entries, along with comments.

I had the instinct that once it took over it would be the beginning of the end of freedoms. I feel like Russia things are slowly permiating us-and I don't like it. LJ used to be so good, too. :(

To clarify: I have nothing against Russian individuals; just some of the things the government is doing.

I think that's just silly. That's the politest way I can put it. Did Russians, or people of any other nationality, refuse to use LiveJournal when it was based in the USA? Of course they didn't.

The USA TOS did not have the discriminatory language in it that the Russian TOS has. I do not want to fall afoul of this new TOS that discriminates against LGBTQ people (which I am), nor do I want to worry about posting a political rant and being accused of "political solicitation," which is defined so broadly my post about my attendance at the Biden rally here in town a few years ago would have been flagged!

It is a scary thing, this new TOS.

While I don't use it much, letting go of the tangible investment that is my permanent account is rather difficult, esp when I'll have to pay to use services at DW that I already have here, and the whole transferal process seems daunting, as does setting up semagic to post there. So much for the internet being forever.
